The herringbone edge curls before the hat is washed and blocked but it settles down after blocking.
The inflatable blocking ball is a toy called a Gertie ball, which costs around $4.00 (google search will show you plenty of places to buy it). You can buy a styrofoam head for not much more but I happened to already have this Gertie ball so why not?
